Emergency fund calculator

You do not need a special online emergency fund calculator to see how much you need to save up in an emergency fund. You need to save at least 6-9 months of your expenses in a high yield bank account for a rainy day, period.

If you have a family this is especially important. You do not want to live paycheck to paycheck because one day those paychecks might stop coming in. Currently around 10% of workers who want a job do not have one, it is very possible that you could join those 10% of workers one day. You will not be unemployed forever but do you really think that you will make it through 30-40 years of working without ever being unemployed? Even if you work in a stable profession such as nursing or teaching it never hurts to be safe financially.

The great thing about an emergency fund is that it is worthwhile even if you do not have to use it. It will offer you a magical thing, piece of mind. Piece of mind is a wonderful thing, trust me. It is not hard for you to lose your job, for you to have a weekend hospital stay that costs $20,000, for your car to be totaled and your insurance not to cover it. You will be able to weather almost every possible situation financially if you develop an emergency fund that will last you the better part of a year.
