Tax return extension

Tax season is coming up quickly! As we all should know, tax day is April 15th, today, at the time of writing, is February 10th, which means we have a little more than two months before the big day will be here.

You can file for a tax return extension if you have to, but you should not do so unless you absolutely have to. You should be granted an extra six months to file your taxes if your extension is successful, but you will have to file your taxes either way so you might as well file them now if at all possible.

Even if you extension is successful, and it should be considering extensions are automatic these days, you will still have to pay any taxes due on April 15th.

The final verdict is this: If you absolutely have no other choice, then an extension is your only real option. However most people who file extensions are procrastinators that have put off filing their taxes until it was too late. You might as well file your taxes on time if at all possible. You can either talk to a CPA, or you can attempt to file your taxes yourself using one of the more popular pieces of software out on the market today.
